Legendary BC Broadcaster, Outdoorsmen, and ex-Social Credit BC Govt. member Rafe Mair gets it (and Tzeporah Berman doesn't) ... Rafe understands the fight against IPP Run-of-River Projects (IPP R-o-R's are essentially the early stages of defacto privatization of BC power production, they are often environmentally destructive, and they carry the potential of great financial risks to future generations of British Columbians) isn't about left vs. right ideology ... what it's about is; enshrining/protecting BC's public assets from unethical Govt. and fast-buck artists on Wall Street... it's about the responsible stewardship of BC public assets for what's in the best long-term interests of British Columbians and their environment (and not Wall Street interests) for generations to come... it's also about the long-term "energy security" for British Columbians, not Wall Street. Didn't anybody learn how few and precious our public assets our? ... did people already forget about the rampant fraud behind Wall Street interests?; the Enron fraud, the Duke energy fraud, the subprime fraud, the unethical BC Rail deal, how about the failed Vancouver Olympic Village P3 with the disgraced Wall Street firm Fortress Investment Group that resulted in the downgrading of the City of Vancouver's credit rating and the draining of Vancouver's Property Endowment Fund, or how about the failed Port Mann P3?. And when local reporters and pundits in the mainstream media of this province say IPP Run-of-River opposition is about ideaology (left vs. right) are these reporters & pundits really that stupid?... is it any wonder that BMO Capital Markets recently declared CanWest Media shares to be virtually worthless? - no, because selling out to the interests of your advertisers has no long-term value for readers seeking the truth from "news" papers (CanWest Media - stock chart) ... and in this rough economic climate, the biggest advertisers for the BC main-stream media have become the BC Govt. and its quasi agencies, who collectively spend millions of dollars per month with the various newspapers around British Columbia, which further complicates the potential conflicts of interests the old media have between their biggest advertisers and telling the truth, no matter the subject. The Campbell Govt. has shown respectable skill operating BC's basic day-to-day business... but they've really blown-it when it comes to the secure long-term stewardship of certain BC public assets for what's in the best long-term interests of British Columbians... there's a alot "Greener", more "Sustainable", and alot more "Secure" ways to generate Green Power in BC than Run-of-River IPP's, like; Tidal Power, Wind Power, and Solar Power Technologies... in fact, even the State of California recently rejected claims that the BC IPP Run-of-River projects are even Green to begin with. Rafe Mair is leading the fight against IPP Run-of-River projects ... and while Rafe isn't perfect, he has, in my opinion, more integrity in his little finger than the entire BC Liberal Govt., the BC NDP, and the major media outlets in this province combined... hear what Rafe has to say at Save Our Rivers Society.
